The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA)
today released its forecast for wind power installations in 2010.
It expects 10 gigawatt (GW) of new wind power capacity to be
installed in the EU during 2010, taking total installed
capacity by the end of 2010 to almost 85 GW - an increase of
13%.

EOLE-RES has announced today the start of construction of the "Langres Sud" wind farm. Once completed, this wind farm will take EOLE-RES past its first terawatt hour of clean, green energy. Located in the south of the Haute Marne Department, on the Langres plateau, this wind farm will be one of the largest in France with an installed capacity of 52 MW. More new wind power capacity was installed in the EU in 2009 than any other electricity-generating technology, new statistics published today by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) reveal. 39% of all new capacity installed in 2009 was wind power, followed by gas (26%) and solar photovoltaics (16%). Europe decommissioned more coal and nuclear capacity than it installed in 2009. Taken together, renewable energy technologies account for 61% of new power generating capacity in 2009.

RES has today announced the acquisition of a portfolio of wind power projects in South Africa which marks the RES Group's first step into this market.
